Maritime Connections in the Archaeology of Wales and Qatar

South Hook LNG, Pembroke Dock

Organised by South Hook LNG, the aim of this conference was to develop the cultural relationships between Wales and Qatar following the construction of the LNG facility at Pembrokeshire. Although at first glance Qatar and Wales may seem to be very different countries there are many surprising similarities.

Both nations are small countries which have developed a higher profile within the world at large through the discovery and export of fossil fuels. Within this context the sea has been a valuable asset both for trade and also for fishing and numerous other activities of economic, social and cultural importance.

The conference ran on the 25th and 26th September 2010 at the National Museum Wales, Cardiff.
